LISTEN: Michigan’s Casinos Offer Sports Betting, Even During Limited Business Due To COVID-19

The state’s casinos were set for big business this past spring, opening in-house sports books in time for March’s NCAA Tournament. Then COVID-19 hit, shut everything down. Sports are back on and the books are open, but what is the experience like?

DETROIT – Sports betting has had a quiet debut into Michigan, with casinos around the state starting their on-site sports books just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the spring. No action from the NCAA Tournament, and other events that were canceled or postponed. The sports book facilities were closed, due to the state’s COVID regulations.

But sports are now back in full swing, and the sports books are open and running under the state and local capacity and masking rules for businesses.

I wanted to see how the sports book operation at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit looked and felt. I went recently with a group of my friends, and here is what the experience was like.
