Leonard Fleck is a professor at Michigan State University who focuses his research on health care policy and medical ethics. He says the divide in the Republican Party was too much to overcome.

“The more moderate republicans are very concerned about the fact that the medicaid program would be very severely affected by the bill that they’ve been asked to approve now, and the consequences of that would be that individuals in their state would be very adversely affected,” said Fleck.

The Michigan Republican Party said they cannot comment on the bill at this time.
