The American Red Cross is sending dozens of volunteers from Michigan to assist in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort.
As of noon Monday, about 60 Michigan volunteers have been mobilized to South Texas. The flooded George Bush International Airport in Houston is shut down, so volunteers are arriving as close to the city as they can. Kelly King is executive director of the Mid-Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross. She says workers are distributing food and helping victims find shelter. King says one way Michiganders can help is by making a financial donation.
“Folks can do that by going to www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS and make a donation.”
King says people can also text the word “HARVEY” to phone number 90999 to make their donation.
