Michigan Winter Temps Increasing By One Degree Per Century Say Experts

It may not feel like it, but climate experts say Michigan winters are actually getting milder.

Despite predicted record cold temperatures this week, experts say Michigan’s winters are actually heating up.

Dr. Nathan Moore is an associate professor of geography at Michigan State University.

He says in Michigan, winter temperatures are increasing at a rate of about one degree per century.

“You will get punctuated periods of extreme cold but the window in which those happen will be narrow. This week is a very good example of that," says Dr. Moore.

Moore says the increase has been happening since around 1890.
