The controversial director of the Michigan State University Museum has resigned.
In a June 23rd email, the Associate Provost for University Collections and Arts Initiatives informed staff that the resignation of Mark Auslander took immediate effect.
Auslander has been on paid leave following allegations of plagiarism and research misconduct. He has sued the university and three people, saying they were retaliating against him for disclosing what he claimed was long-time financial mismanagement.
He also came under fire from the local music community shortly after his arrival for cancelling the popular Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing.
The email says Joe Salem will continue as responsible administrator for the museum but doesn’t say more about the director’s post.
