'MSU's Moment of Reckoning' Special Earns National Journalism Award

PRNDI 2018 - 2nd Place - Division B - News/Public Affairs Program

The news team at WKAR Public Media has been honored with a national PRNDI Award for 2018.

"MSU's Moment of Reckoning," an hour-long radio special, was awarded second place in the News/Public Affairs category for Division B stations by Public Radio News Directors Incorporated.

The special-edition episode of the weekly series "Current State" aired on WKAR-FM on January 27, 2018, following a week that included the sentencing of convicted child molester Larry Nassar and the resignation of Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon. "MSU's Moment of Reckoning" features the voices of sexual abuse survivors and MSU students, Board of Trustee members, and faculty.

The award-winning episode was produced by WKAR Digital News Director Reginald Hardwick and reported by Katie Cook, Kevin Lavery, Al Martin, Scott Pohl, and Karel Vega.

Each year, PRNDI recognizes the best of local public radio news in a wide array of categories. This year's award winners were recognized at the PRNDI awards banquet during the organization's annual conference on Saturday, June 15, in Washington, D.C.

A full list of all winners can be found here at the PRNDI website.
