EAST LANSING, MI; MAY 1, 2016 -- In a QuizBusters championship series of games seen on WKAR TV over the weekend [Saturday, 4/30/16], the Okemos Chieftains defeated the Hillsdale Academy Colts to take home the title of QuizBusters Grand Champion for 2016.
In the first of three games, the Green Division Final, the Okemos Chieftains defeated the Haslett Vikings by a score of 640 to 140 to move on to the final game.
In the White Division Final, the Hillsdale Academy Colts defeated the White Cloud Indians by a score of 430 to 270 to move on to the Grand Championship match-up.
In the the Grand Championship final game of the season, Green Division champion Okemos Chieftains defeated White Division champion Hillsdale Academy Colts by a score of 430 to 270.
Playing on the team for the 2016 Grand Championship Okemos Chieftains were Jacob Pulice, Ricky Li, Erik Bubolz and team captain Ravi Betzig. Andy Floyd is the team advisor.
Playing on the team for the 2016 White Division Champion Hillsdale Academy Colts were John Jordan, Will Smith, Noah Heckenlively and team captain Jonah Harman. Andrew Holm is the team advisor.
Playing on the team for the Haslett Vikings were Brad Luzenski, Hannah Kempel, Chandler Meyers and team captain Peter Ecklund. Alison Dykman is the team advisor.
Playing on the team for the White Cloud Indians were Cordell Talbott, Sariena Maka, Cameron Karnes and team captain Ron Phillips. Tony McHattie and Terri Dowling are the team advisors.
The two Division Championship teams each receive up to four $5,000 tuition scholarships to Michigan State University. The Grand Champion team receives five one-year textbook scholarships provided by the Student Book Store. Teams are divided into Green and White Divisions based on the size of the school, with the largest schools in the competition making up the Green Division, smaller schools in the White Division.
High school students from over 60 Michigan schools have been seen competing on WKAR-TV since October to reach the QuizBusters Championship Series.
