A: Gratitude and Joy Days help put things into perspective.
With a house full of adolescents and young adults, complaining or even whining about problems we have no control over can become a regular occurrence. That's why I've implemented Gratitude and Joy Days at my house. This simply means we must wake up acknowledging all the many reasons we're thankful in these unprecedented and scary times.
A new day, stars in the night sky, togetherness, community, rhythm in our bones, a song in our heart and a hope for a brighter, safer and healthier future...
Perhaps give each member of your family five sheets of paper to write one thing they are thankful for and joyful about. At the end of the day or at dinner time, have everyone share them aloud. For little ones, drawing a picture may work best.
Every family is different, and everyone is facing COVID-19 in a myriad of ways, but expressing gratitude helps experience life in a more positive way.
I know it can be difficult to focus on the positive, but helping our children learn this skill now will have great returns as life goes on.
