Q: How can I foster creativity in my home?

A: In a perfect world, I suggest living on the roof top and staring at the universe for a night or two. Or maybe even painting your walls to depict galaxies, the world of dinosaurs and a land filled with robots and glitter. However, for most of us, reality doesn’t allow us to do any of these suggestions, so I think of our friend Pinkalicious from our beloved show PINKALICIOUS AND PETERIFIC. Pinkalicious sees creative possibilities everywhere she looks.

Fostering creativity in our homes is a simple task. Little learners do this quite naturally. Did your little one ever remove pots and pans out of the kitchen cabinets and commence to perform a drum solo? How about those works of art scribbled on the pallet of your living room walls. These examples demonstrate a child’s innate ability to be creative. We as parents and caregivers only need to keep fueling their imagination.

That’s one of the reasons why I love the seasons. Nature walks through fall leaves and beautiful colored foliage and summers building castles on the beach or a ‘sand palace” like Pinkalicious worked hard to do. Even wintry snow welcomes a world of imagined creativity by constructing snow families and icicle villages.

Pinkalicious reminds us that creativity is in everything and everywhere.
