Red Cedar project to feature market rate and student housing

After months of silence, one of the Lansing area’s biggest development projects is back in the news. Officials say they are hoping for groundbreaking by late Spring for the $125-million ‘Red Cedar Renaissance,' formerly the ‘Capital Gateway.'

A mixed use development, the ‘Red Cedar Renaissance’ will cover about 60 acres at Michigan Avenue and Clippert straddling Lansing and East Lansing.

City officials and others have said the development could be transformational for one of the key avenues in the city, strengthening the link between the two cities.

Current State spoke with one of the two developers of ‘Red Cedar Renaissance,’ Ferguson Development’s Joel Ferguson, and Lansing Economic Area Partnership CEO Bob Trezise.

Ferguson says a new partner in the project, Frank Kass of Columbus, Ohio-based Continental Real Estate Companies, likes the location and has contacts in hotels and restaurants. They have a handshake agreement on the project.
