"Silver Bells" Parade Broadcast Kicks off WKAR's Home for the Holidays

WKAR-TV will broadcast Lansing’s Silver Bells in the City Electric Light Parade live at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 16. WKAR’s Susi Elkins will emcee the televised coverage, along with Michael Patrick Shiels of Fox 47 and Mark Buzzitta of WLNZ.

The event kicks off WKAR’s “Home for the Holidays” – a six-week period of seasonal specials for adults and children alike. Between November 16 and New Year’s Day, WKAR will offer 25 seasonal broadcasts, plus specials from regular WKAR series.

TV Highlights

Among new specials recorded by WKAR are “Sweetie-licious: A Taste of the Season,” featuring recipes by award-winning baker Linda Hundt, recorded at her popular DeWitt bakery and pie shop. “MSU’s Home for the Holidays” will feature the MSU College of Music’s annual December holiday concert. “Silver Bells” will also be repeated on December 23.

WKAR Radio will also offer special programs during the holiday season. A new weekly series highlighting “just-released” classical music, “What’s New at WKAR,” premieres Friday, December 7, at 2 p.m. The show will be hosted by Peter Whorf, WKAR Radio station manager. The December 14 and 21 editions of the program will feature new holiday releases.

In addition, WKAR Radio will also broadcast a radio version of “MSU’s Home for the Holidays.” Regular Sunday night folk programs, “The Folk Sampler” and “The Thistle & the Shamrock” will feature holiday music on December 23.
