Taking a look at the 'three-parent embryo'

Developments in the world of genetics, although sometimes very difficult to understand, can still be absolutely mesmerizing.  Case in point:  take a newspaper headline from last Friday titled, “UK may OK creating babies... with DNA from 3 people.” 

 
To explain the process, which has been dubbed the “three-parent embryo,” MSU genetics professor Dr. Helga Toriello joins Current State.  She also works in the Pediatrics and Human Development department at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
