‘Telling: Lansing’ brings veterans’ stories to the stage

This week and next, Lansing’s Peppermint Creek Theatre Company will stage a production of stories told by veterans and their families. Current State talks with director Blake Bowen and Jodi Hancock, who will tell the story of her father’s Vietnam service in “Telling: Lansing.”

Last May, we told you about a new project linking Lansing’s Peppermint Creek Theatre Company and the Texas-based Telling Project. The Telling Project seeks to work with local theatre companies around the country in staging theatrical productions of stories told by veterans and their families. Peppermint Creek is The Telling Project’s first production in Michigan.

Peppermint Creek will present “Telling: Lansing” for eight performances, starting Thursday night and through November 15, at the Miller Performing Arts Center on Curry Lane in Lansing.

Current State speaks with “Telling: Lansing” director Blake Bowen, and Jodi Hancock, who tells her father’s story in the show.

Scott Pohl is a general assignment news reporter and produces news features and interviews. He is also an alternate local host on NPR's "Morning Edition."
