The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is holding a town hall forum Monday to field questions on medical care.

The Veterans Administration Healthcare System in Ann Arbor is holding a town hall to take questions from veterans about their medical care.

The VA system in Michigan and Northwest Ohio holds this type of meeting quarterly.

Nationally, the VA has endured criticism for decades about its slow response to a backlog of hundreds of thousands of unprocessed claims.

VA Ann Arbor spokesman Brian Hayes says the agency has made great strides to reduce this amount, namely by switching from paper to digital records.

"The claims are getting done so much faster," Hayes says.  "So, the Veterans Benefits Administration has done of lot of heavy lifting; you've got to give them credit for that.  But at the same time, there's a lot of work to be done.'

Last week, the House passed a measure that requires more accountability from VA personnel.  Hayes says the agency welcomes the move.
