Only a small fraction of registered voters voted in yesterday’s primary elections, either by going to the polls or voting absentee.
But many say that’s to be expected. Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum says turnout is frequently lower than she hopes.
“It seems as though I am often disappointed when it comes to voter turnout. Lansing voter turnout was 15%, Meridian Township was a little over 18%. As election officials we plan for 100% voter participation, it’s our right to vote and I just wish more people would exercise that right and vote.”
Voter turnout in Eaton County was about 9% of registered voters, and unofficial results in Jackson County have the turnout at roughly 16%.
