Matt Watroba and WKAR bring locally hosted folk, blues and bluegrass to Capital Region listeners. Sundays at 6pm beginning Oct. 1 on 90.5 FM

Music fans in the Michigan Capital Region can look forward to two new hours of locally hosted folk music coming to the airwaves next month from WKAR. Beginning in October, Folk with Matt Watroba airs Sundays 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on 90.5 FM WKAR and streaming on wkar.org.

The new weekly show features "handpicked folk music crafted for your listening pleasure," said host Matt Watroba. "You'll hear a healthy mix of acoustic folk, blues and bluegrass, with music from around world mixed in."

"I also highlight our great Michigan artists, and share the latest on live music happenings in town and just down the road a bit," said Watroba.

The launch of Folk with Matt Watroba marks the return of a locally hosted folk show to WKAR. For more than 25 years, The Folk Tradition with Bob Blackman was appointment listening for the area's folk music community. That popular show ended when Bob Blackman retired from radio in 2011.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for Folk with Matt Watroba. Contact WKAR at 517 884-4747 or corporatesupport@wkar.org for details.

Born in Detroit, Mich., Matt Watroba is an award-winning folk artist, a founding member of the National Folk Alliance, and a veteran radio host. He hosted the popular Folks Like Us radio program on WDET-FM Detroit for over 20 years and was local folk host and producer for WKSU-FM at Kent State University.
