WKAR Presents Final Interview with Governor Rick Snyder in 'Evening with the Governor'

Dec 21, 2018

EAST LANSING, MI - WKAR’s original program Off The Record presents Evening with the Governor, featuring Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder.

The special will air in the capital region on WKAR HD Friday, December 28 at 8:30PM EST and on most Michigan PBS stations (check local listings).

When Governor Snyder leaves office January 1 at noon, he will leave behind a personal note in his desk drawer to Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer. Learn what he will write to her and more as Tim Skubick, senior capitol correspondent and anchor of Off The Record from WKAR, talks with the Snyders in their final public television exit interview.

The interview covers everything from Donald Trump's lack of civility, to what the governor would do differently if given the opportunity, and everything in between.

Skubick, who has covered Michigan governors since 1969, weaves his intimate style of interviewing to discover what the governor learned about himself during eight years in office, how his lack of political hands-on experience was a “mixed bag,” and how he and his spouse will feel "sad" about leaving this assignment, although Mrs. Snyder was ready to do so over a year ago.

"Citizens are used to seeing governors at the podium, working a room, or out in public,” said Skubick. “This special ‘Evening with the Governor’ broadcast presents another side of the first family which also includes an almost tearful goodbye to the people of the State of Michigan."

The program was recorded at the WKAR Studios on the Michigan State University campus on December 12, 2018.The WKAR original production is available now for on demand viewing in the PBS App on Roku, XBox 360, Apple TV, on iPad/iPhone, and at video.wkar.org.
