A number of abortion-related bills that died last year are resurfacing in the state Legislature.

Republican state lawmakers reintroduced the bills just after the 40th anniversary of the Roe versus Wade Supreme Court decision. One bill would cut state funding to any organization that provides abortions. Another would let health care providers and insurers deny care based on moral objections.
Similar bills never gained enough support to pass last year.
Meghan Groen with Planned Parenthood of Michigan says she expects the same result this time around.
“There were very broad implications of this that I just don’t see anyone being able to get passed in this session as well,” she says.
Governor Rick Snyder signed a bill late last year putting more restrictions on many abortion providers. But the governor vetoed a bill to overhaul Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan that included especially controversial abortion limits.
