Spartans Athletic Director Bill Beekman provides an update on all things MSU Athletics on MSU Today.

Most of us are in our sixth week of working remotely, and in many ways it feels much longer for a lot of people. So much has changed in that relatively short period of time. Beekman keeps the safety and health of MSU student athletes at the forefront of all the decisions he’s making as he prepares for a future where information and the situation constantly change.

“It’s been strange, and we’re living in a virtual environment,” says Spartans athletic director Bill Beekman. “We’re trying to be responsible and staying holed up. We’re mostly communicating through technology.

“I’ve been having meetings through Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and conference calls in my office in my basement. I’m mostly working the phones and trying to stay in touch with everyone.”

The Lansing State Journal reports that former Michigan State University football director of college advancement and performance, Curtis Blackwell, filed a federal lawsuit on Monday in Grand Rapids against Head Coach Mark Dantonio, former President Lou Anna K. Simon, former Athletic Director Mark Hollis, and two MSU police detectives.

“I think the state of Spartan Athletics is very, very strong,” new Michigan State University athletic director Bill Beekman tells me on MSU Today. “Our two marquee revenue-producing programs, football and men's basketball, are performing at a very, very high level and a level where they're competing for Big Ten and national championships. I think those two teams can go into every game during the season with the belief that they're going to win. They're very strong programs led by extraordinary individuals of great integrity.
