Are you an energetic, goal-driven, leader passionate about public media with a niche for developing creative strategies to turn viewers into donors? WKAR in East Lansing, Michigan, has an immediate opening for a Public Media Director of Annual Giving. As WKAR’s Public Media Director of Annual Giving, you will develop and implement strategies to increase annual giving by cultivating new and existing internal and external customers.
WKAR is home to public radio and television for the Michigan capital region, bringing the best of PBS, PBS Kids, NPR and award-winning original content to more than 500 thousand mid-Michigan residents each week. Through expanded broadcast, online, and community engagement, plus new efforts in education and research, WKAR is developing as a national model for the impact public media can have in local communities and beyond. WKAR seeks a Public Media Director of Annual Giving to join its development team. In this role, you will develop and implement plans for online and on-air fundraising campaigns to acquire new donors, secure add gifts and lapsed gifts; develop and implement plans for retaining donors and fulfilling donor pledges; and develop proposals, promotional brochures, appeal letters and other supportive material for cultivation and solicitation purposes. This position is also responsible for advising communications strategies and content to support annual giving efforts; providing leadership and supervision to staff to promote a high-performance culture that meets the needs and expectations of a successful and diverse community; and perform analysis of annual giving activities and prepare reports for station leadership . This person will work closely with the Senior Director of Development, station manager, station producers, internal/external prospective donors and existing donors, program hosts, reporters, and staff.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Business, or a related field.
- Three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public broadcast fundraising or expansive work experience in professional fundraising including public relations, marketing, or higher education annual giving.
Desired Experience and Qualities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in public speaking and professional writing
- Dynamic, accomplished, responsive and collaborative individual with the ability to think and act strategically
- 5-10 years professional fundraising experience in public broadcasting, non-profit charitable organization, special event fundraising or higher education annual giving
- Ability to demonstrate positive results from direct mail, on-air campaign, special events
- Proven track record of growing annual giving programs including recruiting new members, growing sustainers, increasing retention and average gift, success in recruiting and managing volunteers, donors, and/or members.
