As the coronavirus known as COVID-19 spreads through our Michigan communities, so does confusion and concern. People are navigating a complex pandemic in isolation, heightened anxiety, and uncertainty.

This week, WKAR Public Media presents "COVID-19: Answers and Insight," the first in a new series of television specials examining issues faced by Michigan residents in this uncertain time.

"COVID-19: Answers and Insight" airs in the capital region on WKAR-HD (Ch. 23.1) Thursday, March 26 at 9:30 PM ET (check local listings) or watch now at video.wkar.org. It will also will be available at that time for on-demand viewing in the free PBS App on streaming devices and smart TVs, and at video.wkar.org.

In the 30-minute special, program host Shawn Turner anchors a roundtable discussion with experts to examine today's health crisis and provide the public with the information it needs. Turner is a professor of strategic communication at Michigan State University, and a national security communication analyst for CNN.

The debut episode in the new series focuses on resources for our aging community. Scheduled guests include:

Alexis Travis, Ph.D., is senior deputy director of Aging and Adult Services in the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. There she oversees the agency that provides statewide leadership, direction and resources to support Michigan’s aging, adult services, and disability networks.

Kevin Foley, M.D., is a professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at MSU, where he serves as academic leader of geriatric medicine. Foley also serves as medical director of the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Service in the neuroscience department at Mercy Health Saint Mary's in Grand Rapids.

Guests will appear on the show via remote conferencing services, as WKAR original productions follow current social distancing best practices and limit on-site personnel as required under essential staff only restrictions.

WKAR wants to hear questions and comments about COVID-19 from across Michigan. WKAR is accepting submissions of questions and comments, for possible inclusion in this and upcoming specials. To submit a video with questions, visit wkar.org/submitvideo. To submit questions via survey form, visit the page Questions About COVID-19.
