East Lansing, MI – East Lansing, MI (MPRN) - Governor Granholm says the MSU men's basketball team has become a symbol for a state that's struggling for respect.
The governor says the Spartans' success is not just a diversion from the problems people in Michigan are facing - such as the near-collapse of the auto industry, and the nation's highest unemployment rate.
She says MSU also represents Michigan's efforts to turn around its fortunes.
The governor is a basketball fan, and will be at the game to cheer on the Spartans in the final game of the NCAA tournament.
She's also made a bet on the outcome with North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue.
The loser will have to get her picture taken wearing the winner's jersey.
