East Lansing, MI – East Lansing, MI (MPRN) - State House Democrats unveiled legislation Monday that would create a new plan to make statewide healthcare more accessible. Insurance companies would not be allowed to reject or raise rates for sick people. The plan would create a catastrophic emergency pool, which would cover $25,000 in medical costs per person, per year.
State Representative Marc Corriveau sponsors the plan. He says most people with catastrophic conditions need less than $5,000 worth of treatment a year. He says only 200 people in Michigan need about a quarter million dollars.
Republican state senators are planning to introduce their healthcare plan this Wednesday. Corriveau says he thinks the two parties will be able to come to an agreement.
