N. Capital Ramp deal rejected by council

By Rob South, WKAR Radio News

Lansing, MI – Lansing, MI (WKAR) - The Lansing City Council has again rejected a proposal to sell the North Capital Parking Ramp to Lansing Community College. Supporters say the $2.7 million deal would have kept the city from having to invest millions of dollars in repairs to the 40-year-old structure. They also say it would have prevented LCC from building a new parking ramp adjacent to a residential neighborhood.

Councilmember A'lynne Robinson voted against the deal last September and again last night. She says the administration never made a convincing argument that the deal was fiscally responsible.

Carol Wood and Eric Hewitt also voted against the deal. A spokesman for Lansing Community College says it will start design work on its new ramp as early as today.
