Oakland Co. exec reiterates support for Cobo plan

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI – MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (AP) - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says he wants the North American International Auto Show to remain in Detroit. But he'd rather it move to the city's suburbs than leave Michigan.

Patterson discussed his position Thursday during the Detroit Regional Chamber's annual policy conference on Mackinac Island.

He says he favors pending legislation that would give the Detroit City Council another chance to fund a $300 million expansion to keep the auto show at aging Cobo Center beyond 2010.

If the council fails, Rock Financial Showplace in Novi could expand and compete for the show.

Patterson says a decision must be made soon to avoid losing the auto show to Chicago in 2011.
