By AP

LANSING, Mich. – LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A state board has identified four regions in Michigan with the most potential to harvest wind into energy.

Region 1 includes parts of Allegan County southwest of Grand Rapids.

Region 2 includes parts of Antrim and Charlevoix counties northeast of Traverse City.

Region 3 includes parts of Benzie, Leelanau and Manistee counties to the west and south of Traverse City.

And Region 4 includes parts of Huron, Sanilac, Tuscola, Bay and Saginaw counties.

The Wind Energy Resource Zone Board was created by a 2008 state law to estimate wind-generation capacity. Local governments in affected regions have until Aug. 4 to comment on the board's proposed report released June 2. Public hearings also will be held.

A final report will be issued by mid-October.
