ANN ARBOR, MI – Practice rounds are underway in Grand Blanc for the Buick Open.
This is the 45th year for the professional golfing tournament near Flint, and it may be the last. Tournament and PGA officials won't comment on reports GM is dropping its longtime sponsorship of the event.
Jerry Preston is the president of the Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. He says it's too soon to start planning for a tournament without GM.
"You know you can sit there and think and you can come up with all kinds of 'Plan B' scenarios, but frankly, we're not doing that until we really know what the situation is," he says.
The Buick Open generates an estimated 20 million dollars for the Genesee County economy, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in charitable contributions.
The Buick Open is the only PGA tour stop in Michigan.
