Hoyer, Schauer discuss healthcare with GM and other local companies

DELTA TWP, MICHIGAN – United States House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer was in Lansing today to talk with labor and union leaders about the national healthcare proposals. The Maryland Democrat toured General Motor's Delta Assembly plant before sitting down with plant officials to discuss what healthcare changes would benefit GM and its workers.

Hoyer says the national healthcare proposals being debated in Washington would make American companies more globally competitive.

"Clearly when you have a product in which you're investing more in health care than you are in steel, and you're competiting with nations who have a nationally-sponored health care program, obviously that puts you at a competitive disadvantage right away," he said.

In addition to GM officials and union leaders, Hoyer and Michigan Congressman Mark Schauer heard from Kellogg Company and CMS Energy Officials and the Grain Millers and Utility Workers unions.
