LANSING, MI – Former Michigan congressman Bill Schuette is officially jumping into the 2010 state attorney general's race.
The Republican is announcing his candidacy Monday at stops in Midland, Southfield, Lansing and Grand Rapids.
The Midland resident has served in the U.S. House and Michigan Senate. He also has directed the state Agriculture Department and been a judge on the state appeals court.
Republican and Democratic candidates for attorney general will be selected at state party conventions next year. Attorney General Mike Cox cannot run again because of term limits.
Other Republicans interested in running are state Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop and state Sen. Bruce Patterson.
Democrats eyeing a run include state Sen. Gretchen Whitmer and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
