LANSING, MI – A group representing local governments is among those calling on Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to reject pieces of the state budget approved by the Legislature.
Granholm on Thursday signed a continuation budget that keeps government running for 30 days while lawmakers try to agree on a yearlong spending plan. Lawmakers missed a midnight deadline to balance the budget, forcing a partial government shutdown of less than two hours.
One bill in the long-term plan approved by the Legislature but not yet forwarded to the governor would cut revenue sharing payments to local governments by 11%.
The Michigan Municipal League says Granholm should veto that bill.
Others are upset about a bill that would eliminate Michigan's main college scholarship program.
