State House passes Minor-In-Possession bill

LANSING, MI – Underage drinkers would be able to seek medical attention for themselves or their friends without risking a Minor-In-Possession citation under new legislation.

The state House passed the bill Wednesday.

Democratic Representative Mark Meadows used to be the mayor of East Lansing, where Michigan State University is located. He says he sponsored this legislation because of a few alcohol-related deaths on MSU's campus while he was mayor.

"Well we can't say that this bill would have saved their lives," he says. "We certainly can say that it would've made sure that one of the reasons that nobody called to have them helped, until they're already passed away, would not be because there were minors in possession there."

The bill now goes to the state Senate.
