LANSING, MI – Gov. Jennifer Granholm is speaking out about Michigan's budget situation, including how it affects public schools.

The Democratic governor scheduled a 5 p.m. Thursday news conference in Lansing along with state budget officials.

She also has scheduled time to talk to reporters after Friday meetings with school officials in Muskegon and Grand Rapids to discuss education funding.

Granholm's appearances come as she fights with Republican lawmakers over her school funding proposals.

Granholm vetoed $51 million in funding for some of the state's wealthiest districts on Monday. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop has accused her of trying to force lawmakers to come up with more money for schools when it isn't needed.
