Ingham County Budget Approved

By Kevin Lavery, WKAR

MASON, MI – Ingham County has approved what commissioner Mark Grebner calls "the grimmest budget" adopted in the last 30 years. The 2010 budget eliminates 13 vacant positions in the sheriff's department. The board avoided laying off deputies, instead making the cuts through attrition.

The board rejected commissioner Andy Schor's motion to shift $7,000 from the youth commission to the county contingency budget. It also turned down a proposal to allocate money to keep Rayner Park open. The new budget takes effect January 1.
