Poll puts Bernero in lead for Mayor's office

LANSING, MI – A new poll on Lansing's Mayor's race puts Incumbent Mayor Virg Bernero in a considerable lead over his challenger, Carol Wood.

The poll was commissioned by political consultant Bill Ballenger for his news letter Inside Michigan Politics. It puts the race in Bernero's favor at 58 to 42 points. Ballenger says Wood hasn't lost the race yet.

"Carol Wood has acquitted herself very well in the debates, she's a tireless door to door campaigner, she's known throughout the neighborhoods of Lansing, so I think there's still a lot of hope for her," Ballenger says.

Ballenger says the 16-point gap is primarily the result of Bernero's ability to out-spend Wood. As of September 29th, Bernero had spent nearly $200,000 dollars on his campaign. Wood has spent just over $32,000. The poll has a margin-of-error of six-percentage points.
