LANSING, MI – Republican state Senator Mike Nofs was sworn into the Michigan state Senate on Tuesday. Nofs was elected in a special election to fill the Senate seat left empty by Democratic Congressman Mark Schauer when he left for Washington in January.

Nofs thanked Republican Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop for his support on the campaign trail.

"I look forward to working with you and the majority group here of Senators," he said. "And I'll try to live up to the standards that all of you have placed so high as a standing Senator. And there are many among you I look up to and respect so very much."

Democratic Minority Leader Mike Prusi also welcomed Nofs to the Senate. He says he hopes Nofs will live up to a promise to reach across the aisle to work with Democrats as well. The GOP now holds a four seat majority in the Senate.
