LANSING, MI – Governor Granholm says is asking people in Michigan to donate to food banks.
Governor Granholm used her Thanksgiving radio address to highlight a growing need for donations to Michigan's food banks. Michigan's high unemployment rate means the demand for donated food is greater than in previous years.
"On average, one in 10 Michigan citizens turns to a food bank for assistance. This year the need is even higher so food banks have to be steadily replenished year-round," Granholm says.
The governor says over a third of the people who received donated food last year were children. Granholm asked people to donate their time, money or food wherever possible. There are more than a dozen food banks spread throughout the state.
