DETROIT – A Detroit political consultant can leave his mother's home in Flint to prepare for a corruption trial, but there will be no bubbly to celebrate the new year.
A federal judge said Tuesday that Sam Riddle can move to a Detroit apartment. He was forced to leave a Detroit residence last week after being charged with domestic violence against his companion, Mary Waters.
Riddle has been staying with his mother in Flint.
He goes to trial as soon as Jan. 19 on bribery charges involving his former boss, ex-Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers.
Prospective jurors will fill out questionnaires next week.
U.S. District Judge Marianne Battani told Riddle to abstain from alcohol, especially on New Year's Eve. If he's caught, he'll be tossed in jail.
