Ingham Controller announces April departure

By Scott Pohl, WKAR News

MASON, MI –
Ingham County is losing its top financial officer in April, at a time when millions of dollars must be cut from the budget.

Controller Matthew Myers is following his wife to Arizona. She's the interim police chief in the city of Mesa.

Myers says he hopes to help the Ingham County Board of Commissioners choose the next Controller.

"Next week, there is what's called a board leadership meeting, where commissioners will begin to talk about the process that they intend to use in selecting a new Controller, and I will have some input on that," he says.

Myers has been Ingham County Controller for three years.

The county is facing cuts of more than $2-million this year, and as much as $5-million in 2011. The 2011 budget will need to be finalized in October.
