LANSING, MI – A handful of protestors gathered Monday outside the South Side Community Center before Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero's State of the City address. They were concerned with Bernero's commitment to the city.
The protesters held hand-drawn signs criticizing Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero's consideration of a gubernatorial run.
"It says "Do your job, don't switch jobs," said Margo Aseltine.
She is from Eaton County. She says decisions made in the city of Lansing have an effect on the entire region. Aseltine is concerned about the continuity of city leadership if Bernero runs for governor.
"He indicated to the electorate that he would serve the term that he wasn't gonna run for governor and I think he should be held to that," she said.
Shortly after his reelection to the Mayor's Office, Bernero said he was setting up an exploratory committee to research the democratic nomination for governor. Bernero did not mention the gubernatorial race in his State of the City speech.
