University Research Corridor looking for international success

By Rob South, WKAR News

LANSING, MI – Michigan University Research Corridor presidents laid out future economic goals at its new home office in Lansing Friday. The URC is made up of Michigan State University, The University of Michigan and Wayne State University. It was organized three years ago to help improve the state's status as a hub for scientific and technological research.

MSU president Lou Anna Simon says the collaborating universities were responsible for $1.4 billion in research last year. She says that's a positive sign for the schools. She says the state should be investing in higher education at a time when manufacturing jobs are becoming scarce.

Simon says she hopes the University Research Corridor will help the state be more competitive internationally and spark innovative and creative research opportunities.
