Biden says stimulus good for Michigan, rest of US

By AP

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI –

Vice President Joe Biden is in Michigan, taking a firsthand look at what he says is the good being done by the billions in federal Recovery Act dollars sent to this hard-hit state.

The Democratic vice president was in the Saginaw area Tuesday, dispatched by President Barack Obama to defend the economic stimulus plan on its first anniversary.

Biden checked out a jobs training program at Delta College and later was to tour a solar factory, both of which received stimulus cash.

The Michigan governor's office says $10.6 billion in Recovery Act funding has been invested in the state.

Biden on Wednesday is to give Obama a report assessing the effects of the $787 billion stimulus.

Republicans say the deficit-spending program has failed.
