LANSING, MI –
Andy Dillon does not plan on giving up his job as House speaker as he campaigns to become Michigan's next governor.
The Democrat from Redford Township says Monday he will remain as leader of the state House unless a conflict arose that prevented him from doing the job. Dillon said he will continue evaluating the situation.
Democratic Rep. Fred Miller of Mount Clemens early this year said Dillon should resign his leadership position if he runs for governor. Dillon officially entered the race Sunday.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith also officially are in the Democratic gubernatorial race. Former Genesee County Treasurer Dan Kildee is campaigning.
Several Republicans also are in the race.
