Mich. Senate plan would boost tourism advertising

LANSING, MI – The state's popular Pure Michigan tourism advertising campaign would get a short-term boost through legislation overwhelmingly approved by the state Senate.

A bill approved 37-1 Wednesday would reallocate $9.5 million in
use taxes to a fund for the campaign this budget year. The bill,
which now advances to the House, would raise total Pure Michigan
funding for this budget year to about $15 million.

Democrats argue the campaign needs at least twice as much money
to run a national campaign. But Republicans would not agree to an
amendment that would have raised more money for the campaign
through fees added to some rental cars.
