Children's Rights: MI needs to keep working on foster care

By Rick Pluta

LANSING, MI – A children's rights organization says Michigan has not made enough progress in fixing the state's foster care system. Children's Rights is giving the state 30 days to come up with a better improvement plan or it will go back to court.

Michigan agreed to an out-of-court settlement a year and a half ago. Specifically, the organization says foster child caseloads remain too high; the state is not placing enough children in permanent homes; And it says Michigan is not doing enough to prepare wards of the state for adulthood.
