LANSING, MI – Michigan civil rights officials say a public forum in Lansing Monday evening could expose disparities in access to health care.

The Michigan Civil Rights Commission wants to hear first hand accounts of barriers to health care due to race, religion, gender or national origin. Harold Core is a commission spokesman.

"It allows us to, you know, really get a sense of what the people are feeling and what people want to share in terms of what their civil rights issues are so this is our first forum in Lansing on this issue, so we're hoping to get some really good testimony from the public," Core says.

Core says officials from the Department of Community Health as well as private medical professionals will attend. The general public is encouraged to take part. It'll be held at Capital Area Michigan Works on South Cedar in Lansing beginning at 5:30.
