LANSING, MI –

State Attorney General Mike Cox wants his fellow gubernatorial candidates to disclose their tax returns and personal finances.

AUDIO:
Cox made the request to disclose tax returns a few weeks ago. Cox spokesman Nick De Leeuw says they haven't heard a response from any of the other candidates.

"For too long Michigan has had a reputation of not embracing transparency in politics and government," he says.

But many of the other candidates say they do plan to disclose their tax returns and personal finances. That includes GOP candidates Congressman Pete Hoekstra, businessman Rick Snyder, state Senator Tom George, and Democratic candidates Alma Wheeler Smith and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.

Tax Day is next week.
