Tea Party Express holds first anti-Stupak rally

By AP

BESSEMER, MI – The Tea Party Express launched its statewide tour aimed at unseating U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak because of his last-minute vote in favor of the health care overhaul.

Tea Party Express chairman Mark Williams told approximately 200 people gathered Thursday night outside a VFW hall that it was time to send Stupak, a Democrat from Menominee, into forced retirement in November.

The rally was held in Bessemer, at the western edge of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's slated to be followed by rallies Friday in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie. Others are planned for Saturday in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Traverse City, Petoskey, Cheboygan and Big Rapids, and Sunday in Detroit.

The Tea Party Express considers Stupak its No. 2 target for defeat after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
