Lansing firefighters OK pact

By Scott Pohl, WKAR

LANSING, MI –

Fire fighters in Lansing have overwhelmingly approved a new contract that could save the city $1.5-million in the next fiscal year.

The pact would lead to the closure of Fire Station number Three downtown.

There would be a reduction in daily minimum staffing levels, along with changes to health benefits. Details have not been released.

The city council still must approve the deal. That could happen on May 3.

Lansing is trying to close a budget shortfall of about $12-million.
