Lannoye to be appointed to top Ingham County post

MASON, MI –

A former state budget director likely will be appointed Ingham County's Controller-Administrator this week.

Mary Lannoye would replace Matthew Myers, who retired to move closer to family earlier this month. Her selection goes before the county Board of Commissioners tomorrow night. She would begin work on June 1st.

Lannoye says she doesn't want to make specific points about the county's budget before her appointment is official.

"The county is going to, and all counties are going to struggle over the next few years," Lannoye says, "because property taxes in Ingham County's case represent about 65% of their general fund revenue, so that means the largest portion of their revenue base is declining, not increasing or even staying flat."

The county's projected budget deficit for 2011 is $5-million.

Lannoye started her career as in intern in the Ingham County Controller's office in 1979. She went on to serve as budget director, and then chief of staff under governor Granholm. She's been an independent consultant since 2008.
