LANSING, MI –
Michigan lawmakers remain stalled in their attempts to reach compromise on a proposed public school employee retirement incentive package.
The Senate and House ended voting for the day late Thursday afternoon, meaning no votes could be taken on a plan until next week. Negotiators from the Republican-led Senate and Democrat-run House continued meeting in efforts to reach a deal with the help of Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Senate Republicans say they have made their best and last offer to Democrats. Lawmakers say a final plan should be approved soon so eligible employees have time to retire and schools have time to plan staffing for the next academic year.
